When Crimson Dawn appeared in the skies of Hoth, the Blood Nobles set out to attack them. But Crimson Dawn was able to survive the onslaught. Right before the battle was over, the Blood Nobles were forced out of their ship when it was destroyed by Crimson Dawn, which was followed by a thunderous explosion that destroyed the Hoth base. Crimson Dawn formed a new alliance with the Hutts, who were eager to try and rebuild what they had lost and get revenge on the Emperor, and with the help of the Blood Blades they launched an attack on the Galactic Alliance, led by Vader, who released a wave of Force lightning that caused the Death Star to self-destruct, which destroyed the Death Star and caused Vader's injuries. This was the start of the Battle of Hoth, which was ultimately won by Crimson Dawn, though some Imperial forces survived on the planet and would form new units, such as the Nightsister Army.[35]
The Hutts had also lost their hopes to clear up the new instability. As a result, the Hutts decided to leave the planet, clearing up the last remnants of Crimson Dawn there. Even though the Blood Nobles and the Blood Blades were left behind with no leader to guide them, the Blood Blades were able to find their new leader in General Stern, who planned to bring down Emperor Palpatine. They would later join forces with Vader in his hunt for Darth Vader's son, Luke Skywalker, who had killed Vader's son, Anakin Skywalker, and it was Vader who discovered Luke on Tatooine. As a result, General Stern plotted to kill Darth Vader. The next day, the Blood Blades began their attack on the Galactic Alliance, led by Vader, who told the alliance that he had tracked Luke Skywalker to Tatooine.[35]
When Emperor Palpatine had returned to power, he granted Crimson Dawn its wishes and formed a new Imperial Order, consisting of Hutts, Blood Nobles, Droids, and Crimson Dawn, which was led by Stern. The goal of the Imperial Order was to seek revenge on the Galactic Alliance.[35]
Grim Dawn is set sometime after the third season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars in the year 3532. In the year 3532, the First Galactic War, which had raged between the Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems for over three decades, was finally drawing to a close. The war had become increasingly unwinnable for the Republic, with hundreds of worlds lost and the Republic's Imperial enemies having immense amounts of resources. The Republic, which had once been a superpower, was now in steep decline. Meanwhile, General Grievous was making a comeback after being defeated and imprisoned by the Republic.[54]
