You may also use the Color Selection tool (found under Tools in the main menu) to choose which areas of the photograph you want to apply the toning, or you can do it as a normal selection and copy and paste the gradient into the selection. In this case I will choose to apply Sepia-Cyan to the entire photo.
First off, if you have the Gradient Tool active in Photoshop, it's really easy to just drag the gradient into the image and you will automatically get a new copy of the gradient applied to the image. This is perfect if you want to quickly apply one of these presets to a new photo.
If you have the Gradient tool not active, you can still do this. It's a bit more work but it's not that bad. It's actually quite easy to do. To start, select the Rasterize option from the Image menu.
To get you started, here are a few tips:
You can find all the Photoshop Photographic Toning gradients in here
Photoshop loads the default gradient palette immediately after installation so you can choose a range of gradients right away.
Photoshop CS6 has a Filter Preset menu in the top left of the screen that you can use to import presets from other applications, including Lightroom.
If you have the full version of Photoshop, you can use the photographic toning presets to create custom photorealistic toning maps, or use the Photographic Toning Gradient Preset Tutorial .
